Some vessels have applied strips with impressions under the rim. As in the case of bunghole jars, there is evidence that these impressions were were made by the end of a cow toe bone (Hurst 1994, fig 6). A large number of this form have simple stamps on the handles very similar to those seen on Malvernian roof tiles.
Function
Storage. Thought to have had a lid.
Medieval (15th-16th century)
Notes
These jars are very similar in size, profile and decoration to bunghole jars (form 69/08) but without feet.
Examples with handles could also be classed as single or double handled jars (MPRG 4.02.01 or 4.02.03).
