Manufacture
Wheel-thrown
Decoration
Burnished patterning, cordons and grooves seen on many forms. Both knob and linear rustication can be identified on jar forms.
Unlocated, WARWICKSHIRE/GLOUCESTERSHIRE
The source of this fabric is not clear and evidence that exists appears to suggest a number of sources. The rusticated knob decoration and other forms appear to have affinities with products from the Glevum ware and military kilns in Gloucester, whilst jars with linear rustication and indented shoulders are similar to those from kiln sites in Warwickshire, such as Tiddington and Lapworth (Jeremy Evans pers comm). It has been suggested that the distribution of the different rustication types forms a clear geographical divide with the nodular form found to the south of the head of the Severn estuary and the linear to the north (Lee et al 1994, 17).

Roman (1st to early 3rd century and late 4th century)
Wares of this fabric appear to resurface towards the end of the Roman period and are a common component of assemblages of late 4th century date.
