Fabric 118.1 - Valencian Lustre ware


Highly calcereous clay matrix with abundant quartz grains (<0.3mm) and sparse red iron ore fragments (<1.0mm) (Vince 1984).
Fabric colour ranges from off-white to pink to brown.

Vessels have a white tin glaze on both surfaces and are decorated with a wide variety of designs in gold lustre and blue.
Valencia, SPAIN
Produced in Valencia in eastern Spain. The main production centre was Manises but other, lesser centres are known. The majority of vessels found in Britain are decorative dishes and are usually associated with high status sites. Dishes and fragments of alberrelli have been found in Worcester.
Medieval to Post Medieval (Mid 14th to 17th century)
Found in Britain from the 14th century but most common in the 15th. Examples from Worcestershire date to the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries
