Found in small amounts in most post-medieval assemblages from Worcester. Traditionally, this fabric is thought to have been largely confined to assemblages of 17th century date. However, more recently, analysis of the pottery assemblages from 16-18 Sansome Street (Jacobs 2006), The Commandery (Crawford 2007) and Newport Street (Jacobs 2015), have indicated distribution continuing well into the 18th century.
Post Medieval (Late 16th-18th century)
It is thought that pale yellow was the most sought-after colour, with glaze applied thinly. However, coarse wares are generally a brighter yellow (Woodfield 1963-64, 79). Larger vessels tend to be made from red clay and have a white under-glaze slip to create the characteristic yellow glaze.
