Fabric 50 - Grass tempered ware


Iron rich clay with frequent elongated voids suggesting burnt out organic matter; occasional sub-angular quartz grains; moderate fine mica and small fine grained sandstone.
Light to dark grey. External surface can be browny grey.

Manufacture
Hand-made; Some external wiping. The pottery did not reflect a high degree of technical ability indicating domestic manufacture.
Unlocated, AVON VALLEY?
Found in very small quanties in Droitwich. This fabric has not been identified elsewhere in the county.
Saxon (?5th to early 7th century)
Radiocarbon dates indicate that this pottery can be assigned to the 6th to early 7th century, although it may have originated in the 5th century.
